I went around looking for beeswax yesterday (for a lip balm I wanted to make) and could only find some in the candle making section of a craft store. Is this beeswax suitable for making lip balm, or any other body products?Beeswax in candle making section suitable for lip balms?

I keep a couple of beehives in my backyard, and I use their ';homemade'; beeswax for lip balm mixing with coconut oil to get the right texture. Beeswax for candles will work great as long as it is clean and pure. If you don't know the quality or source, you might want to stick with wax that is labeled ';organic';.

I LOVE lip balm. It would be that one item I'd take to a desert island. I've tried all kinds from cheap vaseline to super expensive brands, but the one I love most is Kiehl's baby lip balm. How can I get my sister to stop using this Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm?
She's also a vegan and uses cosmetics that are not tested on animals so she opts for this Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm... it does say ';not tested on animals'; but I've told her numerous times that they're lying to get her to buy the product... plus bee by-products are absolutely cruel.
They make bees work long shifts and numerous hours, over-exerting them and stealing the honey they produce for themselves. That's animal abuse as far as I'm concerned, and wherever there's abuse, we vegans will fight so that justice may prevail. Aromatherapy: Geranium, lemon, chamomile, tea tree, and/or lavender essential oils applied topically can help speed the healing process.
Diet: Eat a whole foods diet. Eat lots of fresh green salads, raw and steamed vegetables, cultured, fermented products such as yogurt and sauerkraut. Refrain from dairy products, sugar, white flour and other processed foods. Avoid citrus fruits, including pineapple. Buy organic whenever possible and please eat only organic animal protein.
Drink at least 1/2 your weight in ounces of pure water daily with either stabilized liquid oxygen added or water dispensed from an oxygen water cooler.
Flower Essences: The most useful flower essences for dealing with the accompanying emotional/mental stress of cold sores are Rescue Remedy庐, Rescue Remedy Cream庐, and Crab Apple.
Herbs: Herbs that boost resistance to cold sores by strengthening the immune response include the tinctures of Echinacea, Siberian ginseng, nettle, and goldenseal. Combine in equal parts and take 1/2 teaspoonful of this mixture three times a day. You can also externally apply diluted tincture of myrrh or calendula. Licorice root tincture applied topically has been shown to inactivate herpes simplex particles and inhibit the growth of the virus.
Topical Treatment: Apply vitamin E ointment or saturate gauze with vitamin E oil and apply for 15 minutes over the area of outbreak.
BHT, a natural food preservative, added to an alcohol solution is another effective topical solution.

Drink at least 1/2 your weight in ounces of pure water daily with either stabilized liquid oxygen added or water dispensed from an oxygen water cooler.

you may have to run to walmart or walgreens but get this stuff called abreva it's with all the chapstick and carmex, it comes in a small tube and it works wonders i have a full blown cold sore and it went away in about three days

around the house stuff never worked for me... this is kinda embarassing but when i start to feel them, my doctor gave me valtrex. it works, they never really show, just a little red. i would get to the store asap and get Campho Phonique cold sore treatment. it works wonders too... i love them both
Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and other lip balm.?
I bought this product last week, but haven't started using it until this afternoon. I been told this works very quickly, but I've been applying it many times since this afternoon, and I've gotten no improvement. I'm wondering 2 things. 1, is it too soon to be expecting results from the lip balm. If so, when did you feel the results. 2, I'm also looking for a good moisturizing lip balm. Well it doesn't have to be moisturizing, I just want something that isn't sticky and I've noticed most moisturizing lip balms aren't sticky.

The original and the one with the pomegranate oil are both really nice. I wear the lip shimmer in Radiance everyday and love it.

Healing Lip Balm
Note: Weigh all ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz beeswax pearls
1 oz cocoa butter
1 1/2 oz shea butter
2 oz. sweet almond oil
1-2 teaspoons flavor oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E liquid (optional, as a preservative)
Preparation:
In a very small pan, add the beeswax and melt over the lowest setting.
Once melted add the cocoa butter chunks and shea butter, let melt, and
then add the sweet almond oil. Heat through. Add the Vitamin E oil.
Remove from stove and pour into a glass measuring cup for easy pouring
into lip balm containers.
Add the flavor oil, or if you would like to make more than one flavor with
this recipe, separate into different glass jars or cups and then add the
flavor oils. Adjust the amount of flavor oil accordingly. Stir flavor oils in
and pour into lip balm containers. If the mixture starts to harden, place in the microwave for a few seconds to re-melt and then pour. Makes 6 ounces.Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe?

now if you want a more creamy lip balm in a tub add a little more shea butter, if you want a more stable balm to put in a twist up tube, use a little more beeswax
15g cosmetic grade beeswax
25g shea butter
15g cocoa butter

10 drops cosmetic flavouring oil
in a ban marie/double boiler, melt the beeswax, add cocoa butter take from heat and add shea butter, in as little time as you can, stir it in, but prolonged heat will spoil the shea butter effect, stir in oils, you can flavour, or not, even a little vanilla extract is nice(not essence though)
pour into tub/container and allow to set
it will set in about an hour, but leave overnight for best effect if using a twist up tube
i love this, no chemicals and very nourishing
***I'm sorry but i wouldnt advocate heating directly, or heating through the shea butter, the recipe looks great, but the method isnt i'm afraid, gentle heating is needed and you should never ';cook'; shea butter, all its beneficial elements are lost through heating

The original is pretty much just a minty menthol type of scent, but theres lots of different kinds. They boast more about the ingredients then the smell. But they don't smell bad they just aren't overly fragranced. More neutral and grown up.

I also have a honey version and a pomegranite something version and they are both very subtle and nice. They have other lip stuff, but I haven't tried them all. Like the lip shimmers and medicated balms and stuff. I have tried other BB products that I love though. The lemon butter cuticle cream is to dye for!! I play the guitar, and chew on my nails and that stuff works wonders for my rough fingers. You could always check out the website for all the product descriptions and ingredients. The original is pretty much just a minty menthol type of scent, but theres lots of different kinds. They boast more about the ingredients then the smell. But they don't smell bad they just aren't overly fragranced. More neutral and grown up.
There's the regular beeswax which like I said is sorta minty
I also have a honey version and a pomegranite something version and they are both very subtle and nice. They have other lip stuff, but I haven't tried them all. Like the lip shimmers and medicated balms and stuff. I have tried other BB products that I love though. The lemon butter cuticle cream is to dye for!! I play the guitar, and chew on my nails and that stuff works wonders for my rough fingers. You could always check out the website for all the product descriptions and ingredients. I love the Honey version of the lip balm much more than the Beeswax. With the Beeswax formula, the tingle was nice, but it didn't do as good of a job moisturizing my lips as I had hoped it would. So I switched to the honey one, and it's my all time favorite lip balm. It makes my lips feel so healthy and soft, and the effect lasts long after I take it off. It's also great to put under lipstick or lip gloss to make them last longer and keep them from drying out my lips. I also use their soap bark and chamomile deep cleansing cream. It really cleans and moisturizes my face and leaving it fresh. I like their lip balms a lot too, I mostly reapply because I want to! They last a really long time and deeply moisturize. They even offer some with sunscreen in them, however those ones aren't very moisturizing. In the winter time I use the Burt's Bees hand salve, with deeply moisturizes the hands. It's a bit greasy, but it's the ONLY thing that will work for my hands. If I don't use it, my hands will crack and bleed.
I think most of the line is great. The lip balm works really well, and their moisturizers work great. The exfoliating products don't do so well, but the regular soaps and cleansers work great. Stay away from the deep pore cleanser, daily facial scrub, and the like, and you won't be disappointed.
The body butter is really good for dry skin, too.

its a nice waxy balm, and its also a good base for lipgloss or lipstick.. but as you may know , it adds no shine whatsoever.
i also likt their Carrot Face lotion, their no-tear shampoo bar and also their Lettuce toner..plus its all natural and you know it'll be good for you..

well for your containers, you can buy alot of cheap lipbalms that youll never use and just scoop them out into a little container for just in case and use it maybe later, or just buy gram containers at the travel aisle. and yes you can . melt the beezwax. and stir in the coconut oil, add coloring if you want, if you had pepermint oil that would be great. but you have mint so dont use that because it will rot. and then poor in the container while the ingredients are still liquid then shove in a freezer wait about an hour. and your done.I need an easy beeswax lip balm recipe?

Can You Use Beeswax Lip Balm On Cold Sores?
The local Pharmacy is closed on Sundays, and I dont feel like walking all that far to K-Mart to go get Abreva. I have a cold sore and its in the ulcering stage, which hurts like hell, but cna I used my peppermint flavored beeswax lipbam to stop it from cracking? Or will I get a whole lot more blisters from putting that on my lips?

Making your own lip balm is a great gift idea. It's easy to do and you can take your time experimenting to get just the right flavor, consistency, etc. Below are some recipes for you to try--you'll see that all require beeswax, which can be easily found at natural foods stores. These stores will also carry the oils needed. Feel free to experiment with other flavored or essential oils.
A few things to think about before making the lip balm:
* because the ingredients call for such small quantities, you'll need to find a VERY small pan to use for melting; often using the double boiler method is a good solution
* you will need to find some mini pots to use for filling with lip balm--you can find these at craft stores or through suppliers of home remedy/natural products
* if you want to add a little tingle to your lip balm, try SMALL amounts of menthol or tea tree oil
RECIPES
Three Ingredient Lip Balm
* What you need:
Lip Balm with Essential Oil Flavoring
2 Tbsp. petroleum jelly
1 tsp. beeswax
10 drops of essential oil (your choice)
* What you do:
1 In a small pot, melt the petroleum jelly on LOW heat.
2 When it is completely melted, remove from heat and add the essential oils.
3 Stir until mixed.
4 Gently pour into containers and let cool before using.
Vitamin E Lip Balm
* What you need:
1/2 cup and 4 Tbsp. almond oil
8 Tbsp. beeswax
2 tsp. honey
1 tsp. Vitamin E oil
1 tsp. cocoa butter
* What you do:
1. Melt beeswax on LOW heat.
2. Add honey and stir.
3. Stir in Vitamin E oil and cocoa butter
4. Gently pour into containers and let cool.
Lemon Balm
* What you need:
1Tbsp petroleum jelly
1/2 tsp. beeswax
3 drops lemon flavor oil
* What you do:
1. Melt beeswax on LOW heat.
2. Add petroleum jelly and stir until mixed
3. Remove from head and add lemon oil.
4. Pour into containers and let cool.

Place bowl with mixture in the microwave for 15 seconds.

I have one that is awesome, and is so easy, every time I wear it out people give me compliments, and when I tell them it's homemade they are so shocked!
Here's how to make it
Put Vaseline in a small container, add as much lipstick/lip gloss as you want for the desired color, (excellent way to get rid of those bits and ends at the end of the tube)
You can just use vegetable oil and nothing else.
Just smear some on your lips and it gives your lips a nice glossy shine.
It's natural and its simple.
just drop some in a little pot and smear a little on your lips every now and then.
i like adding a little lipstick and some petroleum jelly in a small ceramic teacup and putting it in the microwave for 2mins. on high..

I have beeswax, almond oil and vaseline. I need to know how to make it harder than the stuff in the pots ??? Like what to add !

Making your own lip balm is a great gift idea. It's easy to do and you can take your time experimenting to get just the right flavor, consistency, etc. Below are some recipes for you to try--you'll see that all require beeswax, which can be easily found at natural foods stores. These stores will also carry the oils needed. Feel free to experiment with other flavored or essential oils.
A few things to think about before making the lip balm:
* because the ingredients call for such small quantities, you'll need to find a VERY small pan to use for melting; often using the double boiler method is a good solution
* you will need to find some mini pots to use for filling with lip balm--you can find these at craft stores or through suppliers of home remedy/natural products
* if you want to add a little tingle to your lip balm, try SMALL amounts of menthol or tea tree oil
RECIPES
Three Ingredient Lip Balm
* What you need:
Lip Balm with Essential Oil Flavoring
2 Tbsp. petroleum jelly
1 tsp. beeswax
10 drops of essential oil (your choice)
* What you do:
1 In a small pot, melt the petroleum jelly on LOW heat.
2 When it is completely melted, remove from heat and add the essential oils.
3 Stir until mixed.
4 Gently pour into containers and let cool before using.
Vitamin E Lip Balm
* What you need:
1/2 cup and 4 Tbsp. almond oil
8 Tbsp. beeswax
2 tsp. honey
1 tsp. Vitamin E oil
1 tsp. cocoa butter
* What you do:
1. Melt beeswax on LOW heat.
2. Add honey and stir.
3. Stir in Vitamin E oil and cocoa butter
4. Gently pour into containers and let cool.
Lemon Balm
* What you need:
1Tbsp petroleum jelly
1/2 tsp. beeswax
3 drops lemon flavor oil
* What you do:
1. Melt beeswax on LOW heat.
2. Add petroleum jelly and stir until mixed
3. Remove from head and add lemon oil.
4. Pour into containers and let cool.

Combine the Vaseline and milk powder in small bowl.
Place bowl with mixture in the microwave for 15 seconds.
Add in extract(if in recipe).
Place bowl with mixture in the microwave for 10 seconds.
Stir ingredients together.
Immediately put into the fridge until it thickens(about 5-10 minutes).
Enjoy!
Combined the powder/extract should take up the same or slightly less space than the Vaseline.
When you're not using it, keep it in fridge.
Do not use this if you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Here's how to make it
Put Vaseline in a small container, add as much lipstick/lip gloss as you want for the desired color, (excellent way to get rid of those bits and ends at the end of the tube)
You can just use vegetable oil and nothing else.
Just smear some on your lips and it gives your lips a nice glossy shine.
It's natural and its simple.
just drop some in a little pot and smear a little on your lips every now and then.
i like adding a little lipstick and some petroleum jelly in a small ceramic teacup and putting it in the microwave for 2mins. on high..

Cocoa butter is great! I also add a couple of small chunks of beeswax to my double-boiler and I add two or three teaspoons of olive oil and mint extract. i make my own colored lip balm sometimes. i use high pigment lipstick (i bought revlon super lustrous but it was way too colorful) so i mixed a bit of it with vaseline. makes a great tinted lip balm!

To use: Spread a small amount onto your lips.

I don't have my own recipe, but I do swear by Carmex Mint Lip Mositurizer with SPF 30. Its the only chapstick I've found that mositurizes my very dry lips all day, and it has the added sun protection so my lips don't get burned (and yes, lips can get burned). It also gives my lips a nice, subtle sheen.

1 oz. beeswax beads
8 oz sweet almond oil
2 T powdered chocolate
16 1/2 oz lip balm tins
in double broiler add 1 oz. beeswax beads and 8 oz of sweet almond oil. heat slowly until beeswax is melted. remove from heat and add 2 T powdered chocolate.(baking chocolate) stir this mixture well making sure the chocolate powder is evenly mixed. add into 1/2 oz lip balm containers. this can be used as soon as the mixture cools and Enjoy!
Glossy lip balm
1 oz beeswax beads
4 oz. sweet almond oil
2 oz. apricot kernel oil
4 oz Shea butter
flavor oil of your choice 10-15 drops
16 12oz lip balm tins
in double broiler add 10z beeswax beads and 8 oz of sweet almond oil and apricot oil slowly just until the beeswax is melted. ';Remove from heat and add the Shea butter. heat mixture until the Shea butter is me lted. add flavor oil. pour into 1/2 oz lip balm tin containers. This can also be used as soon as the mixture hardens.
this will make 22-24 tins.

1 oz. beeswax beads
8 oz sweet almond oil
2 T powdered chocolate
16 1/2 oz lip balm tins
in double broiler add 1 oz. beeswax beads and 8 oz of sweet almond oil. heat slowly until beeswax is melted. remove from heat and add 2 T powdered chocolate.(baking chocolate) stir this mixture well making sure the chocolate powder is evenly mixed. add into 1/2 oz lip balm containers. this can be used as soon as the mixture cools and Enjoy!

4 oz Shea butter
flavor oil of your choice 10-15 drops
16 12oz lip balm tins

';Remove from heat and add the Shea butter. heat mixture until the Shea butter is me lted. add flavor oil. pour into 1/2 oz lip balm tin containers. this will make 22-24 tins.

Healing Lip Balm
Note: Weigh all ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz beeswax pearls
1 oz cocoa butter
1 1/2 oz shea butter
2 oz. sweet almond oil
1-2 teaspoons flavor oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E liquid (optional, as a preservative)
Preparation:
In a very small pan, add the beeswax and melt over the lowest setting.
Once melted add the cocoa butter chunks and shea butter, let melt, and
then add the sweet almond oil. Heat through. Add the Vitamin E oil.
Remove from stove and pour into a glass measuring cup for easy pouring
into lip balm containers.
Add the flavor oil, or if you would like to make more than one flavor with
this recipe, separate into different glass jars or cups and then add the
flavor oils. Adjust the amount of flavor oil accordingly. Stir flavor oils in
and pour into lip balm containers. If the mixture starts to harden, place in the microwave for a few seconds to re-melt and then pour. Makes 6 ounces.Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe?

now if you want a more creamy lip balm in a tub add a little more shea butter, if you want a more stable balm to put in a twist up tube, use a little more beeswax
15g cosmetic grade beeswax
25g shea butter
15g cocoa butter
25ml sweet almond oil

10 drops cosmetic flavouring oil
in a ban marie/double boiler, melt the beeswax, add cocoa butter take from heat and add shea butter, in as little time as you can, stir it in, but prolonged heat will spoil the shea butter effect, stir in oils, you can flavour, or not, even a little vanilla extract is nice(not essence though)
pour into tub/container and allow to set
it will set in about an hour, but leave overnight for best effect if using a twist up tube
i love this, no chemicals and very nourishing
***I'm sorry but i wouldnt advocate heating directly, or heating through the shea butter, the recipe looks great, but the method isnt i'm afraid, gentle heating is needed and you should never ';cook'; shea butter, all its beneficial elements are lost through heating

Burts Bees is so good! the one in the circle tin can sting a little bit, but if you buy one in a stick it feels really good. if it still irritates you, you should try one that it soothing like the pomegranite, i have it and it feels really good.
Something that you should really try out and is very cheap is to buy some vaseline and some shades of lipstick you like..
Get a tub and put some vaseline and a slice of lipstick in the tub and mix it up :) It creates a really moisturising lip balm and you can make it in any colour you like!
It's also really good for your lips :)
You can make it as pigmented or as clear as you like just by putting more or less lipstick in it!
Seriously try it :) You won't be disappointed!!

They have some lip glosses with SPF 15, or they have some slightly tinted conditioning lip balms. The lip glosses are shiny, but not really glittery. The conditioning lip balms just have a tint of color, not too noticeable.

I've been using the lipbalm ';Yes to Carrots'; a lot lately. Mainly because I heard that Carmex (my old favorite) contained Petroleum, and that Burts' Bees was getting bought out by a company that supported petroleum-use as well. I started making my own lip balms - partly as a craft, and partly because I can control the ingredients. I experimented with and without petroleum and I'm really happy with the non-petroleum results. I have this rose salve from C.O Bigelow. It not only works for your lips, but also for the knees,elbows,face, and cuticles. I LOVE it! i use nivea, they make your lips really soft and smooth.
also, i don't think they test on any animals, and it's pretty organic? i also recommend lush, all of their products are organic and natural. chapstick is also among one of the top selling lip products.
I started making my own lip balms - partly as a craft, and partly because I can control the ingredients. I experimented with and without petroleum and I'm really happy with the non-petroleum results. Check out my blog - it has a couple of good recipes that worked (and a couple that didn't, so learn from my mistakes). This way you can go as natural as you like. And I SWEAR it's really easy.

You are right about Burts Bees, I used them before, but since learning they were purchased by Clorox things changed.
